My Iowa wedding photography approach is all about being present

I’m a documentary-led photographer, which basically means your wedding isn’t one giant photoshoot. It’s your wedding. You should actually get to experience it. When I build your timeline, my priority is making sure you have space to breathe, hang out with your people, and soak in every part of the day without constantly wondering where I’m going to pull you next. Of course we’ll still get all of the portraits, family photos, and those must-have moments, but they won’t come at the expense of actually enjoying your wedding.

Months before your wedding, I’ll send over a questionnaire that covers everything I need to know. Family dynamics? Yep. Any divorces, losses, complicated relationships, or that one chaotic uncle I should be aware of? Tell me everything. We’ll also talk through your must-have photos, things you’d rather skip, and your vision for the day. From there, I create a photography timeline that’s completely customized to you, so I know exactly where I need to be without pulling you away from the moments that matter most.

Iowa wedding photography that feels more like a date than a photoshoot

If the thought of standing still and smiling at the camera for an hour makes you cringe… same. I don’t believe the best photos happen when you’re wondering where to put your hands. Instead, I guide you with movement and prompts that help you relax and actually interact with each other. We’ll walk, talk, joke around, and probably end up laughing at something completely random. Those genuine reactions? That’s where the magic is. Whether it’s your engagement session or your wedding day, I want it to feel like the two of you spending time together, not performing for a camera. My job is to create space for real moments while quietly documenting them as they happen!

My company motto is “For the weird, the edgy, the creative,” and honestly, that’s exactly who I love working with. You don’t have to fit into some Pinterest-perfect mold to have incredible wedding photos. If you’re a little awkward, a little unconventional, covered in tattoos, obsessed with your niche hobbies, or just want your wedding to feel like you, then we’re probably going to get along really well. I’m a hype girl when you need one and a calm, grounding presence when the moment calls for it. 

I can read a room, crack a joke when the nerves kick in, and disappear into the background when something meaningful is unfolding. Every wedding is different, and I think that’s exactly how it should be. And yes… I swear sometimes. If I let out a “fuck yes!” After you absolutely nail a moment together, just know it’s coming from a place of genuine excitement. You’re hiring a real human, not someone pretending to be perfectly polished for twelve hours straight. At the end of the day, I want you to feel comfortable enough to be completely yourself.
