Some wedding days just hit differently. Courtney and Alex’s wedding at The Renwick Mansion in Davenport, Iowa was one of those days where everything felt easy, joyful, and completely centered around what actually matters, the two of them and the people who love them most. From the start of the morning to the packed dance floor that night, the day unfolded naturally with the kind of energy you can’t plan… only feel! And that’s exactly the kind of wedding day I love documenting, when couples trust the process, stay present, and let the day play out while I capture the real moments as they happen. The Renwick Mansion was the perfect backdrop for it all. Historic beauty, beautiful grounds, and the kind of setting that makes an outdoor summer wedding feel straight-up magical.

The morning kicked off inside the mansion with a whole lot of excitement already in the air. The guys were hanging out together, joking around and hyping Alex up, the kind of relaxed, fun energy that makes getting ready photos feel less like “posing” and more like documenting the start of something big. Upstairs, Courtney and her bridesmaids were soaking in those final quiet moments before everything began. Everyone was in matching light blue dresses, laughing, celebrating, and fully leaning into the moment. At one point Courtney popped a bottle and the entire room erupted, the kind of chaotic, joy-filled moment that perfectly sums up wedding mornings. It was the best reminder that the morning of a wedding isn’t just about getting ready… it’s about the anticipation building for the moment you finally get to marry your person!

One of my favorite parts of the day was Courtney and Alex’s first look. There’s something so powerful about slowing the day down for just a second so the couple can actually take each other in before everything begins. Alex turned around and instantly lit up when he saw Courtney walking toward him. You could see the emotion hit him immediately, that mix of excitement, disbelief, and holy shit we’re actually doing this. It was one of those reactions you never forget. Moments like this are exactly why I always encourage couples to carve out time together before the ceremony. It grounds the day, gives you space to breathe. And creates some of the most genuine photos of the entire wedding!

The ceremony took place outside on the lawn, surrounded by towering trees and all of the people who matter most. White petals lined the aisle leading up to a circular floral arch that framed the moment beautifully. As Courtney walked down the aisle, you could feel the entire crowd shift. Alex’s face said everything, equal parts pride, love, and pure excitement. There’s something about an outdoor wedding at The Renwick Mansion that feels incredibly intimate even with a full guest list. The greenery, the historic mansion nearby, the open sky above, it creates this atmosphere that feels both elegant and relaxed at the same time. By the time they said their vows and sealed it with a kiss, the entire place erupted in cheers. And honestly… it was just the beginning.

After the ceremony we took advantage of the beautiful grounds surrounding the mansion for portraits, and this location delivers every single time. The historic brick architecture, the open lawns, and the massive trees give you such a variety of backdrops without ever having to go far. Courtney and Alex together were absolute magic. They have this effortless chemistry that made every moment feel natural, the quiet forehead touches, the way Alex made Courtney laugh, the way they kept pulling each other back in like they couldn’t get close enough.
Those are the kinds of interactions that create photos that feel real instead of staged. Then we brought the bridal party in and things immediately got louder (in the best way). The bridesmaids in their soft blue dresses and the groomsmen in navy suits created such a clean, classic look against the greenery of the property. There was a lot of laughing, a little chaos, and plenty of moments where everyone just leaned into having fun together. Exactly how wedding party photos should feel!

Once the reception kicked off under the tent, the party energy showed up fast. The dance floor filled up almost immediately and never really slowed down. Friends hyping up the couple, people singing at the top of their lungs, guests jumping into the circle around Courtney and Alex, it was one of those receptions where you could feel the joy from every corner of the room. There were hugs, wild dance moves, emotional moments, and a whole lot of laughter. The kind of night where you look around and realize just how many people showed up to celebrate the two of you. And honestly? Courtney and Alex soaked up every second of it. Exactly how it should be!

Courtney and Alex’s wedding at The Renwick Mansion was everything a summer wedding should be, emotional, energetic, a little chaotic in the best way, and completely centered around love. Days like this are why I care so deeply about photographing weddings the way I do. Not overly posed. Not forced. Just honest moments, real connection, and the kind of memories that only happen once.
