Choosing a photographer should be like choosing a new best friend! You need someone who you can vibe with and have fun with, someone who you want to be around and can have fun with!
WOAH! Now I know that sounds scary but listen, your photographer will be capturing some of the most important moments in your life! Your engagement, your wedding, your first child…. It’s sooooo important that you have the same level of trust in them that you would a best friend!
Don’t worry, I’m here to help! Here are some questions to consider when choosing your photographer! AKA new best friend!
Do they make you feel comfortable?
Your photographer should ALWAYS make you feel comfortable and the best way to do this is by getting to know them. See if they bother to take you out for a coffee or a drink to get to know you. Are they interested in finding out your favorite music, what you love to eat, how you spend your down time… All these things can help to create a friendship with your photographer, helping you to feel more comfortable. Feeling comfortable in front of the camera means more natural looking images.
Most likely, taking pictures is a personal thing, you’re trying to capture a milestone that means something to you and so you need someone who makes you feel comfortable enough to be on that journey with you!
Does their style match your style?
This is HUGE! You should always look for a photographer who matches your style! Take extra care to look at the details in the pictures they take. Do they take serious and posed pictures or do you see a lot of fun candid shots in their portfolio?
Look at how the photographer edits, do they shoot in a style that matches your vibe and how you envision your shoot? Take a look at the colors and tones, how they frame the images and their poses. Imagine yourself in their images and picture whether their vibe is right for you!
Do they seem experienced?
Always have this in the back of your mind when searching for a photographer. If you’re wanting to do a beach shoot, look for a photographer who shoots there a lot, they will know the best locations and outfits to wear.
Likewise if you’re looking for someone to shoot your maternity pictures, check out their portfolio to see if they have done this kind of shoot before. If they have, they will understand the correct poses and positions to make the shoot perfect!
Do they vibe with you?
If they vibe with you this will ALWAYS result in better images! If they get you, get what makes you laugh, what you like/ dislike they will make the shoot feel effortless and fun and will always produce better images.
The vibe of the shoot can be set through the music they play, the way they direct you and the poses they tell you to do. It should feel like you’re having fun with a friend and not robotic or mechanic.
I know I just made choosing a photographer sound like dating, but in a nutshell, it kind of is! The perfect photographer has to feel like a friend, catch your vibe and be able to shoot the shit with you! If they don’t, your shoots will be boring and dry, just like your images! And when you find that photographer you connect with…. you make magic!
As your photographer, getting to know you is my top priority – I want to connect, create, and support you through all steps of life before and after our shoot! It is so important for me to learn about you to provide the best experience and to cater to your wants and wishes!
My goal as a photographer is to capture the authenticity of your relationship, your friendship, and your family. All while having your back, showing off some bad dance moves at your wedding reception, or who knows – maybe even taking a tequila shot with you 😉
So what can you expect from choosing me:
Now let’s get ready for your shoot!!!
I see my photography life as a complete life altering decision. I shot my first wedding in Cancun, Mexico and have since shot weddings in four different states. From traveling between the gulf coast all the way back to the midwest, I can't imagine what it would be like to not capture milestones along the way.

It’s amazing how finding a photographer that knows which poses and positions could emphasize your looks is a good idea. My boss wants to celebrate his aunt’s 60th birthday and turn it into something memorable. I think finding a senior photographer can help him with this!
