There is just something about springtime and couples photos in Des Moines that feels so refreshing after a long Midwest winter. The second those crabapple trees start blooming at Water Works Park, it honestly feels like the entire city wakes back up again. Eva & Daniel’s session had the dreamiest mix of spring sunshine, soft pink blooms, and playful energy that made everything feel effortless. These two were the perfect balance of sweet and laid-back, which made the whole session feel more like hanging out than posing for photos. And honestly? Those are always the sessions that end up feeling the most real!

Water Works Park seriously shows off in the spring. Between the endless open grass, rows of blooming crabapple trees, and the way the sunlight filters through everything this time of year, it is such a good spot for couples photos in Des Moines. The whole session felt light and carefree in the best way. Eva & Daniel leaned fully into the playful side of things, running through the trees barefoot, piggyback rides, laughing nonstop, and not taking themselves too seriously. That’s honestly the secret to photos that actually feel like you.
One of my favorite parts about this session was how natural everything felt. Nothing was overly posed or stiff. We just let the environment and their personalities lead the session, and it created the kind of gallery that feels timeless without trying too hard. The pink blooms mixed with the bright green grass gave everything those nostalgic spring/summer vibes that almost feel straight out of a movie. And the little in-between moments? Those always end up being the best ones!

This session was such a reminder that lifestyle sessions do not need to be complicated to feel meaningful. A simple white dress, sunshine, blooming trees, and two people genuinely enjoying being together can create so much magic. Eva & Daniel brought such an easy energy into this session, and I think that’s what made the photos feel so alive. Nothing felt forced. It just felt like them. I also loved how much variety we were able to get just by moving through the park naturally.
Some moments felt romantic and quiet under the trees, while others felt playful and almost chaotic in the best way. The black-and-white images especially gave everything this nostalgic, documentary feel that I’m honestly obsessed with lately. Sessions like this are exactly why I love photographing couples in a more lifestyle-focused way, less pressure, more movement, more connection, and photos that actually feel like memories instead of just poses.
