If you’re planning your Iowa State graduation photos, one of the first questions you’ll probably have is, “Where should we take them?” The good news is that Iowa State’s campus has no shortage of beautiful spots. Whether you want those iconic campus landmarks or a mix of classic architecture and greenery, there’s plenty of variety without ever leaving campus. My goal is always to create a gallery that feels like your college experience, not just a checklist of places to stand!

There are a few locations that are popular for a reason, and I always recommend including at least a couple of them. Beardshear Hall is one of those places that instantly feels like Iowa State. The architecture is beautiful, and it’s one of those spots you’ll never regret having in your gallery. Then there’s the Campanile, which is probably the most recognizable landmark on campus. Whether we use it as the main focus or just let it sit in the background, it always makes for some of my favorite images. And of course, we have to stop by the Iowa State University sign near the Memorial Union. It’s a classic for graduation photos, especially since you can also see the Campanile in the background. It’s one of those photos that just feels right to have.

One of my favorite things about Iowa State is that you can get so much variety without driving all over Ames. The Memorial Union is one of my favorite places to photograph because there are so many different backdrops in one area. You have the fountain, the bright white architecture, and plenty of little corners that photograph beautifully. It gives your gallery a completely different feel from the more traditional campus buildings. If you’re looking to mix things up even more, Parks Library is another great option. The indoor spaces have such a timeless look and are perfect if the weather decides not to cooperate. I also love adding an indoor stop because it gives your gallery a little more variety without making your session feel rushed.

The best graduation sessions aren’t about squeezing in every popular location on campus. They’re about celebrating everything you’ve accomplished and creating photos that actually feel personal. Maybe there’s a building where you spent way too many late nights studying, or maybe the Memorial Union became your go-to spot between classes. Those little details are what make your gallery meaningful years from now. We can absolutely hit the iconic locations, but I also love including the places that meant something to you during your time at Iowa State. And don’t be afraid to make it your own! Bring your cap and gown, your stole, a second outfit, or even a bottle of champagne to pop at the end. Those little touches make your gallery feel even more like your story.

Graduation is such a huge milestone, and your photos should feel just as exciting as the day itself. If you’re looking for Iowa State graduation photos that feel relaxed, natural, and actually look like you, I’d love to help you celebrate this season. We’ll explore some of the best spots around campus, keep things fun and easy, and create photos you’ll be excited to look back on for years.
