If you’re looking for a location that feels natural, romantic, and effortlessly beautiful, Willow Tree engagement photos are hard to beat! Between the rolling green fields, the oversized willow trees, and the soft evening light, this spot is one of my favorite locations for spring and summer engagement sessions in Iowa. It offers so much variety in a relatively small area, making it easy to create a gallery that feels both relaxed and unique without spending the entire session driving between locations.

One of the biggest reasons I love photographing couples here is how much the landscape changes throughout the warmer months. In the spring, everything is lush and vibrant, while summer brings taller grass, wildflowers, and that golden evening glow that looks incredible in photos. The willow trees themselves create a beautiful backdrop and add texture you just don’t find at every location.
Another thing I love about this spot is the variety. Within a short walk, you can find open fields, rolling hills, scenic overlooks, and the iconic willow trees. That means your gallery feels diverse without needing multiple locations, which makes the entire experience feel more relaxed and intentional.

If you’re planning Willow Tree engagement photos, I always recommend scheduling your session during golden hour, usually the last hour or two before sunset. That’s when the light is soft, flattering, and gives everything that warm glow you see throughout these photos. The willow trees also provide some natural shade, which helps create beautiful light even before sunset.
Late spring through early fall tends to be the sweet spot for this location. The greenery is at its best, the fields have plenty of texture, and the overall landscape feels full and vibrant. If possible, I would avoid the middle of the day when the sun is strongest since this location really shines in softer evening light.

Since the landscape is already full of natural greens and soft tones, I always recommend outfits that complement the scenery rather than compete with it. Neutral colors, soft whites, creams, light blues, sage greens, and earthy tones photograph beautifully here. Flowy dresses work especially well because they add movement and help create that effortless feel that fits this location so perfectly.
For couples, coordinating rather than matching is usually the way to go. The couples in these photos did a great job mixing casual and elevated looks while staying within a similar color palette. Comfortable outfits that allow you to move, walk through the fields, and interact naturally will always photograph better than something that feels overly formal or restrictive.

If you’ve been searching for a location that feels relaxed, scenic, and full of variety, Willow Tree might be the perfect fit. Whether you’re envisioning something playful, romantic, or somewhere in between, this location offers so many opportunities to create engagement photos that feel true to you.
